Foreign Aid

with 4 comments

Foreign Aid, what better way to keep a country poor and it’s leaders corrupt. It should be no secret that foreign aid has increased the poverty level in many a developing country. It eliminates the essential incentives required of government to open trade markets and provide a stable economy which is necessary for it’s citizens to build wealth and prosper.

Over the past decade, the news media has taken pride in criticising industrialized nations as being stingy for not giving enough foreign aid to 3rd world countries. But as usual, the news organizations focus on the wrong end of the story. Could it be that there is plenty of money being given, but that the problem is at the receiving end. I don’t know, could it be that the corrupt leaders of these countries use the billions received to build their personal wealth and use food as a weapon against the very people it is intended.

A simular scenario is happening all over the world, but let’s stroll down memory lane and take a look at a recent example of corruption by a famous leader –

For decades, many countries have provided foreign aid to the Palestinian people. Literally billions of dollars have exchanged hands and yet things never get any better. Why? One reason became clear after the death of Yasser Arafat. It seems that he was diverting the foreign aid intended for the Palestinian people into a personal, well stocked Swiss bank account. His own people are living in poverty while he was stealing money meant to help them. What else needs to be said?

On your quest for wisdom you must understand that compassion for your fellow man is a wonderful human trait. In many cases it brings out the best in us as human beings. If this were a perfect world… well it’s not, and unfortunately many leaders of these 3rd world countries are rotten to the core. So the next time the news media tells you that not enough foreign aid is being given to developing countries, at least consider for a moment, maybe it is.

  1. I think it is silly to call a person ‘cold’ because they want to stand for what is right. The US should of realized before that foreign aid to third world countries and such was just a road down to nowhere. Now where is our money?

  2. Hi Amy

When it comes to foreign aid or any other aid for that matter, politicians are very generous with other peoples money. They are in a position to rejoice in the credit while the taxpayers are forced to carry the load.

If politicians were to give a portion of their own money, (excuse me while I laugh) you could be sure that the funds would be placed in more responsible hands.

  3. Hi Amy,

Our money is in the Swiss bank accounts of any number of corrupt foreign politicians. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if a hefty portion of it has found its way into the accounts of some of our own corrupt politicians.

  4. Hi Grit

Well spotted, I forgot about our own politicians that take their cut.
