Danish Muslims Lose Libel Case
You may remember in 2006, 12 cartoons representing the Prophet Mohammad were published in a Danish newspaper which sparked rioting in the Middle East and Asia. Three Danish embassies were attacked resulting in at least 50 people being killed.
Since then a Muslim group in Denmark known as the Islamic Faith Community has been using the Danish legal system against Danes that choose to express an opinion not positive to Muslims. Just like much of Europe, the Islamic cloud of oppression hangs heavy over Denmark, but suddenly we see a small ray of sunlight which penetrates the dark clouds.
Pia Kjaersgaard, leader of the Danish People’s Party (DPP), came forward and accused some of the members of the Islamic Faith Community of treason for going to the middle east and provoking Muslim outrage against Denmark.
The Muslim group in its attempt to intimidate and squelch decent instigated a libel case against Kjaersgaard. The Danish court ruled that the term “treason” was not libelous because it is often used in public debate. As a result the Danish Muslims lost the case and must pay Kjaersgaard 400,000 Danish Crowns or 7,400 dollars in court costs.
Expecting the Danes to rollover and the legal system to do their bidding for them, the Muslims suddenly found it necessary to move to Plan B. Now they have resorted to threats against the newspaper demanding another apology from the paper. I’m sure there will also be an appeal.
The bottom line is that the Danes have stood up against Islamic oppression and have won. All free people of the world should be encouraged by their action.
