Huckabee Continues Forward

McCain and Huckabee

The so-called conventional wisdom of the country club elites is creating another fine mess for the republican party. In typical good old boy zeal to coronate John McCain they are suggesting that Mike Huckabee drop out of the race fearing his presence could hinder the party’s ability to unify behind the front-runner. Yeah, right. The only people I can detect asking for a Huckabee pullout is McCain backers.

“With Romney out of the race, Huckabee became a repository for the anti-McCain vote. I think for conservatives, it doesn’t hurt for a while here to make sure Senator McCain and his folks understand that the fissures that conservatives have with Senator McCain didn’t happen overnight, and are not going to be resolved overnight,” said Greg Mueller, a conservative Republican consultant. “One of the reasons Huckabee is staying in is to give a voice to conservatives so that we are a very strong presence going into the convention.”

Against overwhelming odds, Mike Huckabee continues to move forward while brushing off calls to drop his presidential bid. It’s easy to appreciate this because at least it gives republican voters a choice. Much better than falling into lock step because it’s somehow good for the party.

  1. Hi LC,

I like Huckabee, partially because I’m afraid that Chuck Norris will drop by to kick my ass if I don’t, but also because he seems like a fun person. If he moved into my neighborhood, I’d definitely invite him over for our Christmas party. Even though I doubt he’d be able to institute enough tax reform to eliminate the IRS, just the hope that he’d try is enough to make me vote for him with the other choice being either Hillary or Barack, which I can’t say for McCain. As to why he is staying in the race, people at FOX are speculating that it’s because he’s having fun, which may well be true. My opinion, however, is that he’s smart enough to realize that McCain may, at any moment, succumb to the “big one,” and croak, leaving him as the last Republican standing. In this, for the good of the Country, I wish him much good luck.

  2. Hi Grit

I suspect Huckabee is staying in for fun like you say. He also knows McCain has a temper so with a gentle nudge we could witness a genuine meltdown. Then as you say the “big one” could surely follow.

The reasons are many why I have a problem with McCain. At the top of the list sits the idea of wanting to give constitutional rights to terrorist. No matter how I slice that I just can’t get past the stupidity of it all.

  3. Hi LC,

All I can add is that whoever gets the VP slot on the McCain ticket probably has a better chance of being President than Hillary. This is a thought that gives me great comfort.

  4. Hi Grit

You called it. On the other hand, the way things are in Washington McCain will probably pick Ted Kennedy as his running mate. Boy, that’s something to think about.
