Blagojevich: Impeached or Sacrificed

It’s always great sport to watch the Democrats eat one of their own, so for me to feel sorry for ex-Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is not going to happen. However, this goes deeper than just a corrupt politician being booted from office. It magnifies the corruption that entwines the whole of government.

Blago was allegedly caught on tape trying to sell the Illinois Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama.  There is room for debate on this, but the real questions are why did they swoop in before he actually had a chance to commit the crime? How can it be a crime until the money passes into Blago’s greedy little paws?

I suppose we could fall back on the argument of conspiracy to commit a crime, is a crime. If that’s the case then why is Jessie Jackson Jr. not charged with the same crime? He is after all the person who had the cash and offered to buy the Senate Seat.

At best, we are witnessing a lot of loose play with the law. The US Attorney made the original allegation about Blagojevich trying to sell the Senate seat, but then supplied no proof. The taped conversation was more arrogant bluster than proof of a crime. No witnesses were called, no indictment was handed down, rules were rewritten which virtually guaranteed a conviction. No one submitted any real proof of a crime yet we have an impeachment.

The bottom line is that he had to be sacrificed. With a nod from the Democratic Party and help from Blago himself, the media was able to paint him as an embarrassment. I question this because if embarrassment is a reason to impeach then Ted Kennedy would have been gone long ago. I suspect a man like Blago has a closet deep with skeletons many would like to see go away. Barack Obama comes to mind – wink, wink, say no more.

Personally, I say good riddance to Blago, but the way this conspired raises more of a concern than the alleged crime.

The only question now is will they tie up the most obvious loose end and charge Jessie Jackson Jr. for offering to pay for the Senate seat? I think we all know the answer to that.

  1. Hi LC,

Don’t worry about Blago; his hair will carry on. The only question is where the hair will wind up? I’m thinking Biden.

  2. U called it! A nod from the dems and the attack dog media went straight for the throat. Wonder if the press remembers what it was like to be free?

  3. Hi Grit

Blago is destined to make a fortune writing a tell-all book about Chicago politics. The Obama chapter should be quite interesting. The down side is he will appear on all the talk and news shows until we are begging him to just go away. Except for maybe The View… Blago still has his pride.

    Hi tigerpaw

Judging how easy it is for the media not to be fair and balanced I would have to say No. I suggest that their first step back to the glory years begins after they remove their lips from Obama’s buttocks. After that all things are possible.
