Blasphemous Soccer Balls

with 43 comments

soccerball The U.S. military in Afghanistan expressed regret for a publicity campaign aimed at winning hearts and minds that ended up offending scores of Muslims. U.S. troops on Friday dropped dozens of free soccer balls for Afghan children from helicopters in an area of southeastern Afghanistan, all marked with flags of various countries.

A problem arose in that the balls depicted the Saudi Arabian flag, which features the Islamic declaration of faith and includes the names of Allah and the prophet Mohammed. The idea of kicking something bearing their names is considered deeply offensive to Muslims.

“This ball … carries a message with it which, like an atom bomb, can cause carnage and insecurity in all parts of Afghanistan,” said a leading Afghan private daily Cheragh.

Fawad Ahmad, a shopkeeper in Kabul, said: “Americans themselves create insecurity by ignoring religious sensitivity, it is against Islam.”

A spokeswoman for the U.S. military in Afghanistan said the ball distribution was part of a “goodwill humanitarian aid mission … for the enjoyment of Afghan children.” Captain Vanessa Bowman said the military had been unaware of the sensitivity of the issue. “We do regret any disturbances caused,” she said.

This begs the question, what doesn’t offend Islam? Simply existing as a non-Muslim offends Islam, so how can you win? Retrieve the soccer balls and give them to children who will appreciate them. Israeli children come to mind. I suppose all you can do now is file this one under no good deed goes unpunished and call it a day.

  2. Hi Neil

It’s probably not that anyone’s really offended over these occurrences, but claiming to be wins Muslims another psychological victory. How can they fail with a world media more than willing to spread propaganda about a flag on a soccer ball rather than real offensives like mass murder, be-headings and the list goes on.

  3. Oh I agree that Lord Crimson is awesome. It is manly, macho, wise and nobel to offend other peoples’ religion. Those who offend other peoples’ religions are the greatest people around like George Bush.

It seems strange however that those who offend other peoples’ religion because they can’t find logical arguments to justify the bad things they are doing to those people – are so easily offended themselves!!!!!! they seem to be so imature dont they?

The United States is not a banana republic. Therefore the government should have known what would or would not be offensive to the people of Islam. One is tempted to think that the vile, evil, nasty zionist jews who stole our White House and are carrying out a holocaust against the people of the middle east against the wishes of the American people offended Islam on purpose.

What goes around comes around. They’ll get theirs. Look at their history in Europe. The chickens always come home to roost. This time they are not destroying nazis or Germans. They’re not mucking with the French or the Spanish or the British. They’re mucking with Americans. They’ll be lucky if they end up as well off as the Indians. There is no nation on Earth that will welcome them. These Zionist Askanazi jews will have to go live in their ancient homeland of Mongolia. The world will be well rid of them.

  4. Hi southernvoice

Those evil soccer balls, who could have guessed? You try to promote a little friendship by giving kids a soccer ball with flags of the region on it and Islam is offended.

Perhaps you can see my confusion as Muslims have no problem burning flags in the street so who would have thought kicking a ball with a flag on it would matter? Oh wait, it’s only flags from western countries that are allowed to be burned. No offense there, I’m sure.

I’ve been looking for a court jester and have decided that you are perfect for the job. Well done!

  5. Could you please give me one reason why Muslims in the Arab nations in the middle east should respect the American flag.

The Iraqis have never done anything to us. We attacked them and destroyed their country based upon lies. If they didn’t hate us they would surely be a gutless and dispicable bunch.

We destroyed their most sacred city of Fallugah, the city of Mosques, and slaughtered the people.

There is no honor in the only military power on Earth bombing people who could not defend themselves from our military might.

Saddam’s pathetic soldiers surrendered to reporters in the desert during the first Gulf War. We deterred the only other military superpower the Soviet Union and had no reason to fear Saddam even if he did have WMD.

Perhaps you should ask yourself why we invaded Iraq. We have created more terrorists where there were none until we attacked Iraq. You spread hated and scorn against people who are our victims and who have done nothing to us. Why are you so angry at Islam? Can you not control your own emotions. Do you have no understanding or ability to use logic and reason.

How does it enhance your religion or manhood or your integrity to scapegoat and slander and belittle Islam. How does it reflect upon Christianity and America for you to slander and belittle the people of Islam.

  6. I have to say that it would be nice if Christians showed similar respect for the things of the one true God. Sometimes Islamic zeal puts ours to shame.

  7. Hi Southern Voice – Re. “Those who offend other peoples’ religions are the greatest people around like George Bush.”

But one of my beefs with Bush is that he says inane things like, “Islam is a religion of peace” and that they get to Heaven through a different path. He either doesn’t know how ridiculous a statement that is (which would be bad) or he knows better and is lying (which would be really bad).

  11. HI all,
What all heavy talk. Like southernvoice. sure you shall respect other countries flags. why not. If someone’s hurt because someoneother ones behaving is not in line with your standard? If the other one, to your opion,is low-infidel-or .whatever, do not act as low as you think they are.

About the football, this is hillarious—-many officers and other guys get payed big bucks to thinks about IO and psyop (S) (some without the S to prevent these things and prevent and reach taa. Realy lack of a red cell.

  16. hey southernvoice, You pathetic twit. You racist scab on the arse of humanity. Islam is the religion of the antichrist and Muhammad (May He Be Buried Under A Ton Of Shoes) is the false prophet of Islam’s Allah, who is Satan in disguise.
Give me one of those soccer balls, I would get great joy out of kicking Saudi Arabia’s flag, over, and over, and over.
Viva Israel, Long live Israel, God’s chosen people.
Here are more offenses to muslims:
Jesus is God, and the Son of the Most High God.
Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world.
Jesus is my Lord and Saviour.
Moses, Ezra, Job, Ezekial, Isaiah, Jesus and all the prophets of the Jews were never muslims. They would all be horrified at being hi-jacked by the false religion of Satan called Islam.
Peace out U.K. brothers and sisters. Don’t give in to the demands of muslims or you will be living in the United Kingdom of Arabia!!!

  21. If that’s the actual ball, then I think it was a wind-up. TO the right of the Saudi flag you have what appears to be a discoloured flag of Northern Ireland – hardly the first country to come into one’s head when designing an ‘international’ colour scheme (neither is Saudi Arabia for that matter). The flag of NI of course includes the Star of David.

Meanwhile to the left of the Saudi flag is the flag of Israel 😀

Good joke, but a bit too obvious for our muslim cousins lol
